Cape Põõsaspea, the north-westernmost point of mainland Estonia, is one of the best places in the whole of Europe for observing the migration of Arctic waterfowl. Every autumn, around 3 million waterfowl migrate through here.

The most active spring migration period in Põõsaspea begins in mid-April and lasts until the end of May. The best time to spot migratory birds in large numbers is in the morning. Seabird migration picks up again in July when the common scoters set off on their journey. The largest numbers of migratory seabirds can be seen from September to mid-November.

When migration slows down, be sure to check out Spithami meadow where various passerines stop to rest.

It is well worth visiting Põõsaspea even in the winter months, as the sea here does not freeze over and you can see large numbers of goldeneyes, common mergansers and long-tailed ducks overwintering here.
